2018 Travel Plans
It’s my last day at home today before I’m heading back to the office, so I thought I’d take some time to write down my travel plans for 2018. I love reading these kind of posts from other travel bloggers as everyone has such great plans and I look forward to travelling vicariously through them – much as I’d love to, I can’t possibly travel to all the places on my neverending wishlist! As some of you may know, I started a new job in November, which involves working in very different regions to my previous job where I had the pleasure of jetting around the Americas all year. I also have a few personal travel plans, although nothing too adventurous as we’re saving for something special in 2019!
January – Yorkshire
I find winter in the UK particularly hard-going, especially after all the festive fun at Christmas has died down, so I now try to plan things to do so I always have something to look forward to. This year we’re going up to North Yorkshire for a long weekend with friends in a cabin in the woods, complete with hot tub. It’s exciting that it’s only a couple of weeks until we head up there now and it should be a lovely change of scenery – fingers crossed for good weather!
February – Lebanon & Egypt
In February I’ll get my first new country of the year, taking my grand total to 32! This is going to be my first work trip in my current job and my second visit to Egypt. I’ve hardly travelled in the Middle East and North Africa region so I’m excited to get the opportunity to explore more of the region in 2018. Also not forgetting the warmer weather that I’ll be desperate for by this point in the year!
March – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Oman, Bahrain, Cairo
Another work trip and three new countries are scheduled for March so far! I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and experiencing Dubai as it seems like a lot of people really enjoy visiting the UAE. Oman also always looks so beautiful when I see pictures of it so I can’t wait for that either.
April – Saudi Arabia
My work travel plans are never set in stone more than about two months in advance; however, I would typically travel to Saudi Arabia in April with work so this is likely to go ahead. It’ll be my second visit to Saudi Arabia as I first went with work in 2015. Back then I only travelled to Riyadh but I’m hoping to get the chance to visit other cities on this trip like Jeddah, which is supposed to be very different culturally to Riyadh.
May – Spain, Gibraltar (& Morocco)
I’m sure I’ll be ready for a break by early summer and we have family in La Linea in the south of Spain so this is where we’re planning on escaping for a holiday before the UK summer holidays start! Southern Spain and the Rock will be lovely and toasty by March so it’s the perfect time to get in some beach time, sangria and paella. You can also do a day trip to Morocco so I’d love to do this from Gibraltar but the logistics may be trickier than I anticipate!
June – Poland
And of course, what would summer be without a wedding! We’re heading to a wedding in Katowice so I’m planning on tagging on trips to Krakow and, on a more sombre note, Auschwitz – it’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go but I’ve never managed it.
TBC. I’ll definitely be travelling out to the Middle East again during Autumn 2018 with work but it’s far too early to say where at the moment! As we don’t have a massive holiday planned this year, I’d also like to try and visit some new places in Europe if possible for city weekend breaks but now I’ve written down my travel plans so far, my time seems to be at a premium this year. My top European destinations on my wishlist are Prague, Budapest, Madeira, Malta and Croatia, so if I even manage to get one of them in, I’ll consider that an achievement!
I hope you’ll enjoy coming along with me on my travels! What travel do you have planned for 2018?
