2019 Travel Plans and GPSmyCity giveaway!
This is a strange one for me to write this year as it’s been a good few years since I haven’t had a constant stream of travel lined up as the New Year comes around! Many of you will know that I left my job with travel last year and am now spending much more time in the UK. I don’t think that’s a bad thing though, and I can’t complain as I have our wedding and honeymoon to look forward to towards the end of 2019. So these are really some musings on how I feel travel will pan out for me this year!
I’m also excited to kick off the New Year by giving my readers the chance to get a one-year subscription to GPSmyCity completely free of charge! The app usually costs $18.99 but you won’t have to pay anything to get access to travel articles and walking tours for over 1,000 cities around the world. All you have to do to enter is comment below with the places you’re planning on visiting in 2019!
More exploring the local area
I think this is going to be most of what I’ll be doing travel-wise, particularly towards the start of 2019. I feel that travel has been such a big part of my life for a long time so I need to find some way to scratch the travel itch! I’m particularly keen on kicking things off by venturing out of our town at the weekend to explore the Cotswolds, which is a beautiful region. It’s full of idyllic villages, rolling hills and cosy pubs. This hits several New Year goals for me: 1, to not let the winter get the better of me by leaving the house more; 2, to explore more of the beautiful local area I live in and discover new places without spending a lot of money; 3, to try and get more active on a regular basis. So watch this space for more info on Cotswolds walks and food!
April – Wales
Whilst I personally feel like travel is taking a bit of a back seat this year, it’s not true at all to say we don’t have any trips planned! At Easter, we’ll be travelling to Wales and staying in a cottage for one week with my family. I used to go to North Wales a lot with my family when I was growing up and I’ve always loved this (possibly underrated) part of the UK. We’ll be based in Llandudno, not far from Snowdonia, which has some breathtaking scenery and lots to explore!
October/November – Caribbean
This really will be the travel highlight of 2019, without a doubt! We’ll be visiting Barbados, Saint Lucia and Antigua during our trip to the Caribbean for our wedding and honeymoon and I CANNOT WAIT. We’ll be flying First Class out to Barbados with BA, which will be a real treat before our wedding. We’re also hoping to do our PADI diving certifications before we head out there so we can go scuba diving (especially in Saint Lucia). Planning this trip will take up quite a bit of time and although it seems quite far out at the moment I’m sure it’ll come around really quickly!
I think having a quieter year travel-wise means I’ll be able to focus more on meeting up with friends and spending some more time travelling around the country to see them. Hopefully I’ll also be able to discover some new places by doing this!
I’m also hoping to do some more travel collaborations on my blog, like this giveaway with GPSmyCity! I love using apps when I travel to help me make the most of new places I visit, especially if they include tips from locals. GPSmyCity not only gives you access to articles and city guides but also links to an in-app map to let you navigate to the different places that are mentioned. It’s a particularly great app if you (like me) enjoy exploring places on foot.
To enter the giveaway, make sure you comment below with your upcoming travel destinations for 2019 to be in with a chance to win a free one-year subscription to the GPSmyCity app! The contest will be open for 2 weeks and I have 10 subscriptions to give away, so don’t forget to comment before Sunday 27th January. If you win, you’ll receive a code and can go ahead and download the app on either iOS or Android to start exploring!
