Is there anything we all enjoy looking at more on Instagram than epic food and drink? OK, so maybe it’s not to everyone’s taste (get it?) but I’m certainly a huge fan. I have definitely been known to go to food locations deliberately because of their insta worthiness (haven’t we all?) and visuals certainly sell a place well! As I’m now already thinking about our next trip to Munich for the Christmas markets in December 2020, I thought I’d share my top locations in the city for all you instafoodies. And they’re actually all really delicious options too – not just doing it for the ‘gram.
Possibly not one of the first foodie places you’d think of in Munich but definitely the most instagrammable on this list. BiteDelite is a great spot to get a breakfast bowl packed with fruit and nuts to kickstart your day before heading out to explore the city.
These are served at the Medieval Christmas market and are particularly insta worthy due to the fact they’re set on fire before they’re served. Kind of like a feisty Gluhwein.
3. Smoked fish
Again, not necessarily one you’d think of immediately but also available at the Medieval Christmas market. Pick your choice of smoked fish from a barrel and enjoy it with a side of jacket potato and quark (kind of like a herby German soured cream).

For me, the Munich Christmas markets mean great food and drink. Our favourite so far is the smoked fish stall at the Medieval Market near Odeonsplatz. We both went for the prawn skewers with potatoes and Kräuterquark (kind of like soured cream with herbs). It doesn’t get much better than this washed down with some fiery Glühwein and chimney cake to finish 🙌🏻
Obviously this was going to make the list – because if you went to a Christmas market and didn’t put a Gluhwein photo on insta were you even there? Extra points go to whoever gets their Gluhwein in a cup/mug/glass that matches the overall theme of their feed.
The most famous beer hall in the world – and no trip to Munich would be complete without it! A little touristy to be sure but worth it for a photo with a beer the size of your head.
6. Outdoor beer gardens
Next up we have… more beer, of course – this time in the Viktualienmarkt. To be honest this is self explanatory as having a beer outside in the freezing cold in December does have a certain novelty factor. It’s certainly a refreshing experience!

It's International Beer Day! Wish I could be in Germany celebrating in a beer garden like this one in the Viktualienmarkt in Munich – Prost! 🍻🇩🇪 . . #internationalbeerday #beer #beergarden #bier #biergarten #munich #germany #münchen #deutschland #viktualienmarkt #travel #visitgermany #bavaria #bayern #travelgram #instatravels #igtravels #travelblog #travelblogger #uktravelblog #uktravelblogger #fridayfeels #friyay #freitag
A random restaurant we went to on the recommendation of one of John’s friends and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely one for meat lovers as they are constantly cooking countless ribs to serve up on delightful rustic wooden boards. It was so busy we had to sit at the bar but was 100% worth it.
Apparently this is quite a standard burger chain in Germany but it is still insta worthy due to the fact it’s decorated with trees inside the restaurant. Not something you see every day and the burger was pretty good for the price point too.
Have you ever visited a restaurant/bar specifically because you’ve seen it on the gram? Let me know in the comments below!
