S/S 23 trends – what to wear

The weather will (hopefully!) be getting warmer and sunnier very soon, so it’s time to think about your Spring and Summer wardrobe. I’m a big fan of keeping clothes for multiple seasons rather than getting rid of everything and buying a whole new wardrobe every 6 months, which is really wasteful. But I also like to keep an eye on what the trends are to see if I can incorporate them into my wardrobe either with pieces I already own or buy investing in a couple of new items. Read on for the S/S 23 trends that I think are actually wearable day-to-day (because we know that so many trends really aren’t… looking at you, visible underwear trends):

Midi denim skirts

If you follow any kind of fashion or style Instagrammers, you’ve no doubt already seen this trend. Midi denim skirts are back and I’m loving the styles with a slit up the front to make moving a lot easier. A denim midi skirt is a great alternative to jeans when the weather is warmer and the weight and length means you won’t be caught short in a breeze.

Basics

Think high-quality t-shirts, blazers and blocks of neutral colours. The best thing about this trend is that you probably already have most of what you need in your wardrobe. I’m currently loving a black blazer to quickly smarten up a more casual outfit or worn over a dress. It’s a great item to incorporate into your outfit when it’s not cold enough for a big coat but still too cool to go without covering your arms.

Flared jeans

We’ve had the era of mom jeans and now it seems the jean leg is getting even wider with flared jeans making a comeback this season. I personally haven’t ever owned any proper flared jeans but I think this is a trend I can get behind because it screams comfort to me! I’d style flared jeans with a more structured top and jacket in a block colour to avoid looking too 70s.

Big bags

Big bags are back! So I hope you still have some in your wardrobe. For the past few years, it’s all been about tiny bags so it’s time for a change. And it is a bit of a relief to know I’m not going to have to check if my phone fits in my bag just to stay on trend. You can either go for something more structured, like a Mulberry Bayswater or choose a slouchy option for a more casual look. But beware the weight when you fill a big bag.

Metallics and sequins

The most exciting news of the year has to be that metallics and sequins are no longer reserved for parties in the winter months. I particularly love metallic accessories to add interest to an everyday outfit, such as a bag or shoes. And when we talk about metallics, it’s not just the standard gold and silver. There are some gorgeous metallic colours such as blues and greens around too.

Ballet flats

Ballet flats are very in for S/S 23. I used to wear ballet flats a lot in the 2010s and since then I have upgraded my ballet flats so I have a few higher quality pairs than the ones I ran into the ground when I was at university. To be honest, I’ve always been a fan of ballet flats in Spring (when it’s dry!) so this is a really great trend that I can get behind.

3D flowers

I had to include this one as I kind of love it but also think it might be challenging to incorporate into a standard day-to-day outfit. The runways had a lot of 3D flowers, especially at Loewe and you can wear them on shoes, clothing or as accessories. One to watch to see if the high street comes out with some wearable versions of this trend.
